Stefan Nils Magnus Ingves (born 23 May ) is a Finnish-born Swedish[4] banker, economist and civil servant who served as the Governor of Sveriges Riksbank, the central bank of Sweden, from to He serves as the Vice-Chairman of the Bank for International Settlements (BIS) since November [5] In June , Ingves announced that he will resign as Governor of Sveriges Riksbank on 31 December He was succeeded in the role by the former director of the Swedish Financial Supervisory Authority, Erik Thedéen.[6]

Early life

Ingves has a Finland Swedish background and grew up in the village of Närpes in western Finland.[3]

In , he earned a Ph.D. in Economics at the Stockholm School of Economics and his thesis is called "aspects of trade credits", about credit models between companies.[7]

    Former Riksbank governor Stefan Ingves has been appointed as Senior Fellow at the Swedish House of Finance. Ingves, who served as the head of the Riksbank for 17 years from to , will officially begin his assignment on November 1.

    Ingves’ role as Senior Fellow include teaching as well as advising in topics intersecting monetary policy, macroeconomics, and finance. Swedish House of Finance director Bo Becker expressed optimism regarding Ingves' experience benefiting researchers and students.
