    Von Staden grew up as a Baltic German in Tallinn, Estonia. He studied law in Bonn and Hamburg. In , he joined the Foreign Office.

    He was head of the Consular Section of the West German Embassy in Brussels, from to In , he was posted to the Commission of the European Economic Community. In , he married Wendelgard, Freiin von Neurath (born ). In , he was Counsellor at the West German Embassy in Washington. Then he was Head of Political Department of the Foreign Office in Bonn.

    In his memoir, he describes the beginning of the turn from confrontation to détente, which he observed as ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany, during the Kennedy and Johnson administrations in Washington, D.C.       Berndt von Schinkel, (enligt födelseboken Bengt) före adlandet Bergman, född den 7 november i Färgelanda sockensprästgård, Älvsborgs län[1] , död den 14 februari i Vifors, Hamrånge församling, Gävleborgs län, var en svensk militär och historisk samlare, gift med Beata Sophia von Schinckel (–), från vilkens släktnamn han fick namnet von Schinkel när han år adlades på nummer med namnet von Schinkel enligt 37 § års regeringsform.[2]

      Fädernesläktens förste kände stamfader, som ursprungligen hette Carllöf, var på talet smed i Karlstad. Dennes son, komminister i nämnda stad, var farfar till von Schinkels far.
